Head Start parents are encouraged and provided with a variety of opportunities to volunteer. Some of the opportunities for volunteering include
Parent Center Committee
Participate in the leadership of your child’s center by attending monthly meetings, discussing issues and advising staff.
Represent your child’s center by attending monthly governance meetings and voting on many of the important decisions affecting the entire program.
Serve on a committee that focuses on specific issues affecting the program. Committee members participate in Program Planning Committee for health, nutrition, education, family services and special needs; Menu Planning Committee; Health Advisory Committee or by participating in the annual Program Self Review.
Regular Classroom Volunteering
Work with children on art activities, read to individual children or to small groups, help during meals or transitions and more. We encourage you to check with staff for specific volunteering opportunities.
Contribute your skills to support center operations. Your participation in landscaping, sewing, carpentry, painting, cooking, and more is appreciated.
Special Classroom Activities:
Share your interests with the children by teaching a song, cooking traditional family recipes, leading an art activity, or utilizing the Big Idea to give input on the curriculum. We encourage you to check with staff for specific opportunities.
Volunteer on Field Trips
Volunteer to support hands on learning outside of the classroom.
Represent The Program at Community Events:
Participate in community events by attending conferences, participating in Parent-Teacher-Administration (PTA) Meetings, handing out flyers, and assisting with other recruitment opportunities throughout the year.
