Our community has a network of organizations dedicated to supporting local families, and many of the families we serve at E Center don’t know about half of them. This post is our attempt to change that. Whether you’re looking for food assistance, healthcare access, mental health support, or help for your child’s development, there are people in this community ready to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Food Bank of Yuba-Sutter serves thousands of families in our area with free groceries, emergency food boxes, and a network of partner food pantries across Yuba and Sutter Counties. No one should go without food, and the Food Bank is committed to making sure that doesn’t happen here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If your family is experiencing food insecurity \u2014 or if you know a neighbor who is \u2014 the Food Bank is an excellent first call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CalFresh provides monthly benefits that help low-income families purchase groceries. Many families in our community qualify but haven’t enrolled. If your household income has recently changed, or if food is a consistent source of stress, it’s worth checking your eligibility. E Center’s Family Services team can help you understand the application process and connect you with local support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
WIC provides nutritional support, healthy food packages, breastfeeding support, and nutrition education to pregnant women, new mothers, and children up to age 5. It’s a federal program administered locally in Yuba and Sutter Counties. WIC is distinct from CalFresh and serves a specific population \u2014 if you have a baby or young child and you haven’t looked into WIC, it’s well worth a call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many low-income families in Yuba and Sutter Counties receive health coverage through Medi-Cal, administered in this region through Partnership HealthPlan. If you’re unsure whether your children have health coverage, or if you need help finding a Medi-Cal provider in the area, Partnership HealthPlan has resources to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ampla Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with locations in Yuba City and Marysville, offering primary care, dental care, and behavioral health services on a sliding fee scale. For families without adequate insurance, Ampla Health is one of the most accessible healthcare resources in our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both counties have public health departments with programs specifically for families with young children \u2014 including immunization clinics, health education, and links to community health workers who can help connect families with the services they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both Yuba and Sutter Counties have county behavioral health services available to residents who are experiencing mental health challenges. These services are available on a sliding scale and include crisis support, individual counseling, and family therapy. Mental health is health \u2014 and accessing support when you need it is a sign of strength, not weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, there are local resources ready to help. The Catalyst Domestic Violence Services organization serves the Yuba-Sutter area and provides emergency shelter, advocacy, and support for survivors. Help is available around the clock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several evidence-based home visiting programs operate in Yuba and Sutter Counties, including Early Head Start’s home-based option (through E Center) and other programs designed to support first-time parents, families with infants, and parents navigating challenges. Home visiting brings support directly to you \u2014 no transportation needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both library systems offer free resources for families with young children \u2014 including story times, early literacy programs, summer reading programs, and free access to books, audiobooks, DVDs, and digital resources. A library card is free and is one of the most valuable things a family can have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First 5 California commissions county-level organizations \u2014 First 5 Yuba and First 5 Sutter \u2014 to fund and coordinate early childhood programs across each county. These organizations invest in preschool, family support programs, health initiatives, and parent education. If you’re looking for programs for children under 5, First 5 is a good starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you have a child under 5 with a developmental concern or a diagnosed disability, your local school district’s special education department may be able to help. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), eligible children from birth are entitled to early intervention services. Contact your district’s special education office to learn more about evaluation and services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both county social services departments administer a range of financial assistance programs \u2014 including CalWORKs (California’s TANF program), General Assistance, housing assistance referrals, and emergency aid. If your family is facing financial hardship, a call to social services is a reasonable first step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By calling 2-1-1 or visiting 211.org, families can search for local resources by need type \u2014 food, housing, health, family support, childcare, and more. It’s a free service available 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the most distinctive parts of E Center’s Head Start program is our Family Services team<\/strong> \u2014 dedicated staff whose job is to know this community’s resources deeply and help enrolled families access them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When a family enrolls at E Center, they’re not just connecting their child to a preschool classroom. They’re connecting to a team that can help them navigate everything from health screenings to housing referrals to community programs. We meet with families throughout the year to assess needs and connect them with resources they may not have found on their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is one of the things that makes Head Start different from traditional childcare \u2014 and one of the things our families most consistently tell us has made a real difference in their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Yuba-Sutter community has more resources than many families realize.
