E Center’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs are now enrolling for the 2026–27 school year. Spaces are limited, and they fill earlier than most families expect.

If your child will be 3, 4, or 5 years old this fall — or if you have an infant, toddler, or are currently pregnant — this is the moment to act.

Why Act Now?

Every year, families who wait until August call to find that their preferred center is full. Every year, families who apply in June secure placements with their first-choice schedule and location.

Here’s the math: E Center serves hundreds of children across multiple locations in Yuba and Sutter Counties. We process applications on a rolling basis and make placements as eligibility is confirmed and space allows. A family that applies in June is placed before a family that applies in August — it’s that simple.

Children on a waitlist miss the beginning of the school year. The first weeks of Head Start are when children form foundational bonds with their teachers, settle into routines, and begin the developmental progress that compounds throughout the year. Missing that window has a real cost.

Automatic eligibility (income does not matter): – Families receiving TANF, SSI, or similar public assistance – Families experiencing homelessness or housing instability – Children currently in foster care

Income-based eligibility: Eligibility is based on Federal Poverty Guidelines or another qualifying factor.

Children with disabilities receive priority enrollment at Head Start regardless of family income, as required by federal law.

Programs Available for Fall 2026

Head Start (ages 3–5): Center-based preschool with part-day and full-day options depending on location. Contact us for availability at your nearest center.

Early Head Start (birth–age 2 and pregnant women): Center-based or home-based options for our youngest learners and expectant families. If you’re pregnant now, this is the right time to enroll — your child’s development begins before birth, and so does our support.

How to Apply: 3 Easy Steps

Step 1: Contact us. Call, apply online, or walk in. There’s no wrong way to start.

Step 2: Gather your documents. You’ll need: your child’s birth certificate, proof of residency in Yuba or Sutter County, recent pay stubs or benefits letter, and immunization records. Our team will guide you if you’re missing anything.

Step 3: Meet with our Family Services team. A brief, friendly meeting to confirm eligibility and match your family with the right program and schedule.

That’s it. Most families complete the process in 1–2 weeks once they start.
